Since 2013, Generational Development Society has worked toward a future where every person — regardless of their background, ethnicity, or country of origin — has the tools, support, and opportunity to thrive in Alberta.
Our mission is to improve the mental health, well-being, and economic opportunities of Black, Indigenous, and People of any Colour — youth and adults alike — through mentorship, counselling, and education, and by providing access to meeting space and modern technology.
We believe every person deserves access to the resources, programs, and opportunities that allow them to succeed — regardless of background or circumstance.
Everything we do is shaped by and for the community we serve. We listen, adapt, and act on what our members need most.
We honour the diverse cultures, histories, and identities within our community and celebrate them as a source of strength.
We invest not just in individuals, but in building a legacy of support, leadership, and opportunity that benefits future generations.
What started as a grassroots effort by founder Mohamed Ali has grown into a registered Alberta Society with multiple programs serving hundreds of community members each year. From mentorship for youth to digital literacy for newcomers, from employment coaching to culturally sensitive counselling — GDS is a one-stop hub for BIPOC Albertans looking to build a better life.
